We're Launching!
Hi, all.
BIG things happening this week: This Friday, September 24th, we are launching our Climate Action Explorer! AND there is a Global Climate Strike happening–you guessed it–all around the world!!
This is the moment we’ve all been (anxiously) awaiting. Designed and implemented by our team here at OTL, the Climate Action Explorer is an online tool that will help everyone who’s concerned about climate change actually get plugged into the movement and working towards achieving real change. How will it do that?
So glad you asked.
For starters, the Climate Action Explorer contains a database of just about every single climate action happening in the US (picked up by software and then manually-reviewed by an OTL team member). Users can access this data in a couple of different ways: First, there is a quiz that asks users about how they would like to take action (in person/virtually, with affinity groups, at certain sphere of influence, etc.), and then suggests actions based on the stated preferences. Second, there is a map that displays all of the actions in the database, color-coded by type of action. Here’s a video about the Climate Action Explorer if you want to see it in action!
We think this all sounds pretty cool already, but if you need more reasons to be excited about the Climate Action Explorer, here are a few more:
This tool is the first of its kind – We scoured the internet far and wide to see if someone had already made a collection of every climate action happening in the US. Spoiler: No one has, which is why we’re so proud to be getting the Climate Action Explorer off of the ground. And we’re making it searchable/personalized as a huge bonus!
We believe the Climate Action Explorer will help close the gap between the percentage of folks who are concerned about climate change and say they want to act and those who have actually taken action. This is a big gap (check out the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication data here), and we see so much potential here to grow the movement.
Climate writer/activist extraordinaire and New Yorker contributor Bill McKibben thinks the Climate Action Explorer is worth checking out – McKibben gave the tool a shoutout in the September 17th edition of his newsletter The Crucial Years (which you can subscribe to here).
The launch of the Climate Action Explorer is coinciding with the Global Climate Strike on Friday Sept 24 (Actual coincidence? I think not...) This is a great opportunity to be a part of the movement on a global scale and show world leaders what we’re all about. Learn more at this website and find a strike happening near you to participate!
Last but not least, we are hosting a virtual launch PARTY at 1pm ET this Friday (9/24), and you are all invited!! The event will include a pre-recorded song from the band Mipso, some words of wisdom from climate activist Tony Pérez Soto, and an interactive demo of the Climate Action Explorer. RSVP here to get the Zoom link.
Ok, that’s a lot to be excited about. Keep the hype up this week, tell your friends about us, and we look forward to seeing you all at our launch party this Friday!
